The Miami Dolphins open camp on Thursday, July 27th.  Here is the preview and roster prediction of the offense going into camp.  () indicates they will make the roster/PS means practice squad:

Quarterbacks:
1.  Ryan Tannehill (1)
2.  Matt Moore (2)
3.  Brandon Doughty (PS)
4.  David Fales
The most talked about position on the Dolphins roster for all the wrong reasons.  There are still many Tannehaters out there that still believe Matt Moore should be our starter, let alone someone else. Well, I am here to tell you that is not happening.  Tannehill, from all reports, has looked sharp moving around in camp, as well as his continuity with the receivers.  Aside from injury last year, Tannehill won 8 out of 9 games prior to his injury and showed immense progress with Adam Gase.  Matt Moore proved that he is still a quality back up QB.  Where the battle really happens in camp is between Brandon Doughty and David Fales.  Fales was picked up as a FA this off season and worked with Gase in Chicago.  Doughty is coming into his second year and lost favor after Tannehill went down.  They brought in TJ Yates, instead of elevating Doughty from the practice squad.  This battle should play out in most of the preseason games, due to the new NFL rules about roster size going into the final preseason game.  I truly believe Gase will still run with Tannehill and Moore as the only 2 quarterbacks on the roster.  While keeping Doughty or Fales on the practice squad.
Running Backs:
1.  Jay Ajayi (3)
2.  Kenyan Drake (4)
3.  Damien Williams (5)
4.  De’Veon Smith (PS)
5.  Storm Johnson
6.  Senorise Perry
Last year, this was a position of many questions and for the most part, concerns.  The Dolphins brought in Arian Foster as the number 1 back, as Ajayi, Drake and Williams weren’t able to impress Gase.  It was so bad that Ajayi was kept home week 1 from Seattle.  Drake and Williams were more weapons out of the backfield than an every down back.  I don’t need to explain how everything happened after week 5.  But looking at this group, I see more promise this year than last.  Ajayi is the clear cut guy, with Drake likely being the back up in regards of carries.  Williams re-signed in the off season after a delay, but he is going to be the third down/goal line RB or FB.  He is such a dangerous player.  Smith, Johnson and Perry will be looking to possibly get onto this roster, but I don’t see it.  Unless someone can take return duties away from Drake or Grant, this will be a 3 headed race,  I do see De’Veon Smith likely making the practice squad though.  He had a pretty good mini camp.
Wide Receivers:
1.  Jarvis Landry (6)
2.  Devante Parker (7)
3.  Kenny Stills (8)
4.  Leonte Carroo (9)
5.  Isaiah Ford (10)
6.  Jakeem Grant
7.  Damore’ea Stringfellow (11)
8.  Rashawn Scott (PS)
9.  Drew Morgan (PS)
10.  Mitch Mathews
11.  Francis Owusu
This is my favorite group on offense, like most of you reading this.  This group could do some serious damage this season.  This is a very diversified group of talent with speed, shiftiness, and precise route running.  The real battle begins behind Kenny Stills.  Carroo being a disappointment is an understatement.  After giving up a ton in the 2016 draft to move up to get him, he was a late scratch for the final games and didn’t dress for the playoff game.  The team saw him as another version of Landry.  What happened this off season could change perception of him.  He will need to impress to keep his job with the main roster.  The Dolphins drafted a very talented receiver in Isaiah Ford, and picked up Stringfellow and Morgan.  Both who have made impressions in mini camp.  Morgan being compared to Chris Hogan already.  Scott was a late addition to the roster last year and was a good receiver in college.  Jakeem Grant is the one that can really change the way this looks.  He had issues last year in the return game and fell out of favor at times due to those costly mistakes.  He worked with Matt Darr during the off season to help.  He didn’t see too many reps on offense last year and that limits his potential.  He will need to beat Kenyan Drake to make this team on special teams.  I don’t see it yet.
Tight Ends:
1.  Julius Thomas (12)
2.  Anthony Fasano (13)
3.  Marqueis Gray (14)
4.  Thomas Duarte
This group is night and day different from last season.  Jordan Cameron, unfortunately couldn’t stay away from the concussion bug and put this group in flux.  Dolphins went out and traded for Julius Thomas, who is familiar with Gase and his system.  He is an immediate upgrade as the number 1 option and will give match up issues.  Anthony Fasano brings a veteran presence and a familiarity with QB Ryan Tannehill.  He was also rated the top TE blocker last year from PFF, which will add an element to the running game.  Gray was resigned late last season and will be slated in as the third TE.  I don’t see Duarte making the roster.  He has ability and size, but the Dolphins have pressing needs on the practice squad else where.  Particularly on the other side of the ball.
Offensive Line:
Starters:
LT Laremy Tunsil (15)
LG Ted Larsen (16)
C Mike Pouncey (17)
RG Jermon Bushrod (18)
RT Ja’Wuan James (19)
Reserves
Sam Young (20)
Kraig Urbik (21)
Issac Asiata (22)
Jake Brendel
Terry Poole
Eric Smith
Anthony Steen (23)
Avery Young
Once again, this unit is the scariest in my opinion.  The Dolphins did not address the depth at Tackle this off season.  If anything happened to Tunsil (please don’t), this unit will collapse in my opinion.  He is already an elite player in my opinion.  Larsen was brought in to fill Tunsil’s void after Albert was moved in a trade.  Pouncey is the cog to this unit.  The six game winning streak was when he was at Center.  Bushrod is a staple, for now at RG and James is at RT for the 4th straight year.  The depth is concerning.  Anthony Steen and Sam Young provide the most experience from last year.  I believe Asiata is bound to take over at one of the G spots at some point this off season.  He reminds me of Richie Incognito, in the way he plays in the trenches. I hope Miami scours the waiver wire to add more veteran depth to this group.  And please pray for Tannehill.
Special Teams:
LS Winston Chapman
LS John Denney (24)
K Andrew Franks (25)
P Matt Darr (26)
P Matt Haack
I don’t see much change in this unit.  Denney has been a staple with this team and is a leader in the locker room.  Here is where I am surprised.  Andrew Franks has no competition where Matt Darr does.  Darr is one of the better punters in the NFL.  I don’t see him losing his job at this point.  Franks on the other hand hasn’t been trusted very much by Gase.  He played field position game most of last year. Outside of the ridiculous kick in Buffalo (with a non kicker ball was  more impressive).  Franks needs to prove what he can do and be more consistent.  As my colleague Mike stated in an article, you cannot ignore the kicker.  He add points and can be a weapon (see Justin Tucker as an example)
