Well, it was a nice draft and everything. And Miami did pretty well purging themselves of expensive, big ego players and replaced them with cheaper, younger seemingly more team orientated players. I realize training camp and the first preseason game has had some ups and downs but there was still plenty of reasons to think that this Miami Dolphins team had a chance this year to shock some people and make a charge at the playoffs. That was until the big hammer and known game changer in the world of professional athletics that is Missouri newspaper cartoons stepped in and put an end to that pipe dream by printing (yep, that’s right, actual printing) an unflattering cartoon of Dolphin’s players particularly Kenny Stills kneeling. Then the hilarity ensued by having a kid wearing a #13 shirt, holding a Dolphin’s record of 6-10 and saying Maybe You Should Focus on the GAME. Missouri newspaper cartoons doing what they do best and that’s bringing the funny.

Just imagine you’re living in Missouri and you open the newspaper and after you turn the front page that has an article about how a guy who is gunning for a Missouri House seat, and doing quite well s̶t̶r̶a̶n̶g̶e̶l̶y̶,̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶s̶t̶r̶a̶n̶g̶e̶l̶y̶ ̶ who said “Hitler was right”, you turn to the funnies(I think they’re still called that, not sure, who knows) for a quick little laugh and you get this gem of a cartoon that knocks you right off your porch swing. The only response for viewing such a comedic and thought-provoking masterpiece like this is

Yep, Missouri newspaper cartoons got us and they got us good. Absolutely no reason to even have the season. Might as well just forfeit all the games, keep everybody injury free and go into next year as the healthiest team to ever take the field. The thought of the Dolphins even attempting to go out there and compete is like someone asking me to empty the ocean with a shot glass. There’s just no point.

I’m not a newspaper cartoon expert let alone a Missouri cartoon expert, but I do have some issues with this piece. First, I didn’t know that at sporting events everyone stood up and said the Pledge of Allegiance. Maybe Roger Goodell and his good time buddies are adding that to the pregame ceremonies. If they did I’d understand it because if I had to say the Pledge before I had to take a spelling test as a kid, then NFL players should have to say it before they help me win my fantasy football league. Secondly, the Dolphins won 6 games last year while protesting/ kneeling and the cartoon says they should focus more on the game. That’s interesting because the Jets, Broncos, Colts, Texans, Giants, Bears, Bucs and Browns won less games than Miami so what were they focusing on? Makes you think a little right? Also, the Eagles were one of the most outspoken teams who protested throughout the season and even during their first preseason game last week and they’re the current champs. Doesn’t make sense because if your team protests then you aren’t good at football and yet they won the whole thing. Total mind-blower. Finally, the guy named Losers with the #00 is not a factually correct player on the team although it be fantastic if there was.

I don’t really care where people fall on this issue that will continue to be perpetuated throughout the season because the owners and players don’t do a good job of sitting down with each and talking things out. If you were looking for this to be over soon, you’re going to be disappointed. If you’re one of those people who let this issue really frazzle you and gets you all hot and bothered and you’re done with the NFL, take it easy and have a nice life. The ratings are still fantastic and TV networks will always do anything to be on board with the NFL. But, if you’re one of those people who has an opinion whether it’s a strong or weak one on the issue, can say it and listen to other folks’ opinions without getting enraged with the ability to enjoy the game when it starts then I say have fun with the season. But not this year, because Missouri newspaper cartoons erased any kind of positive season that the Dolphins’ and its fans wanted to have. See you in 2019
