Most years I only do one Mock Draft per season and it is the week of the NFL draft that takes place in late-April. This year is different though as I am under quarantine at this point in time and stuck at home and working from home due to the craziness that is taking place in the world. So, it looks like I will be doing more than one mock draft this year in the lead up to the draft.
With this first mock draft I am doing I have projected/predicted some trades I think that may take place. Granted free agency is only a week old so there are still numerous quality free agents on the market at this moment in time, so this mock will change some in the coming weeks as we get closer to the NFL draft, but as of today here is my first mock draft of 2020.
Being a Miami Dolphins website this first mock draft I did is very Miami Dolphins heavy. I have Miami making three trades in round 1 and making four total picks in Round 1.
1.Cincinnati– Joe Burrow QB-LSU
2. Washington– Chase Young- Edge-Ohio St
3. Miami (TRADE: Miami gets Pick #3 and Lions Get #5 and #26)—Chargers hold a higher 2nd round pick than Miami, so Fins MUST overpay a bit– Tua Tagovaoila-QB-Alabama
4. NY Giants– Jeffrey Okudah-CB- Ohio St
5. Detroit Lions (from earlier Miami trade)- Isaiah Simmons-LB-Clemson
6. LA Chargers–Justin Herbert-QB-Oregon
7. Carolina– Derrick Brown-DT-Auburn

You may be thinking Miami is giving up too many picks with these trades, they would in this 2020 draft own picks 3, 18, 25, 32, 70, 141, 173, 185, 227, 251. 10 picks total and they still have a 2021 1st round pick and two 2nd round picks. 10 picks total this year and they fill most of their voids on offense and have four players they control for five years on rookie deals.
Throwing away a hard earned first round pick to move up and select a player that hasn’t finished a season due to injury & will not start in 2020 would be the sort of dumb move we’ve made for decades. My bet is that Tua will be there at 5 & we still won’t pick him at that spot, in fact we may trade down rather than do so. If we stay pat it’ll either be a Tackle or DT Derrick Brown. The moves we’ve made suggest fixing the D is this years major concern & adding Brown gives us 3 very good DT’s to rotate. Please stop following the “Tank for Tua” narrative forced on us by the likes of NFL Total Access & NFL.com as these clowns have zero notion of the revolution under way in Miami!!
Wait, what? You have us picking four times and only choosing 1 olineman? First of all no team should use 4 ones in the same draft(i wouldn’t even use all of our 3 ones). Second, idk Mike I’m not touching any of our 2021 1s, especially not for a rb. I like your first two pks tho.
not terrible . fair trades I think. We gain players at our essential current needs. This is a great influx of talent. As much as I’d love to use all those picks, I knew it never was going to happen so if this ended up being true, I’d be very happy.
I’ll admit I’m just another Monday morning quarterback, but I don’t know why you would have to give up that much just to move up one spot to get JK Dobbins. I just say stay pat where your at. If he is there at pick 26 then sure pick him and I would have no problem with that. However if Detroit picked him or traded the pick to another team and they picked him then so be it. Go ahead and then pick Xavier McKinney, or another tackle, or another offensive lineman
One spot? We jumped from pick 56 to pick 25. Try and keep up pal!
I would take Tua if he is cleared medically and falls to #5 (no trade up). If Tua is gone I take Simmons or Brown or trade down to target an OT. At #18 I take Love (assuming no Tua at #5). If Love is gone in this scenario I go Gross-Matos or trade down. At #26 I reach for an offensive lineman Niang or Ruiz (or of course trade down). At #39 I like a Safety (Winfield, Davis, Dugger, Chin, etc.) and #56 another offensive lineman Wilson, Cushenberry, Kindley, etc.). I would avoid trading up or taking a RB early in the draft if I could.
