Heading into the 2021 season, the Miami Dolphins suddenly have a stable of weapons for 2nd year QB Tua Tagovailoa to develop with. The team added Jaylen Waddle with the 6th pick in the draft while inking former Texan Will Fuller to a one-year deal. Receivers Albert Wilson and Allen Hurns will also be making their returns to the field in 2021 after sitting out last season, where they will join DeVante Parker and Preston Williams once again. The always-imposing threat at tight end – Mike Gesicki – will, of course, be back to build on his successful 2020 campaign. The running back room seems to be set to function by a committee of Myles Gaskin, Malcolm Brown, Salvon Ahmed, and the newly drafted Gerrid Doaks. So, with all of these mouths to feed, who will rise to the top as the best fantasy football option in South Beach this season?

With confidence, I can say it won’t be one of the tailbacks. The Dolphins will approach the run game by fully mixing it up. Gaskin is the clear alpha in the backfield, but he likely will not see enough workload to produce even RB2 numbers, let alone RB1 status. The same goes for the rest of the backs in Miami, as a RB committee is a fantasy manager’s worst nightmare. Malcolm Brown will be vulturing touchdowns regularly, while Ahmed and Doaks will work in as change-of-pace backs behind Gaskin, resulting in a less than ideal situation for fantasy production.

I don’t see Tua being the fantasy star here, either. While I fully expect him to have a fantastic sophomore season, he will likely fall into the middle of the pack when it comes to fantasy QBs. There is not much that separates the best fantasy QB’s from the middling ones, which is the situation I expect Tua to fall into here.

So, it has to be the new rookie receiver compared to Kansas City’s burner, Tyreek Hill, right? Not him, either. Waddle should, and hopefully will, have an immediate impact on the Dolphins’ offense, but I have someone else pegged as the leading fantasy producer in Miami this season.

In just 11 games in 2020, this receiver caught 53 of his 75 targets and turned them into 8 touchdowns and a career-high 879 yards. The former Houston wideout, Will Fuller, will be Miami’s fantasy darling in 2021. He is, of course, suspended for the first game of the new season, but upon his return, he should emerge as a true threat in the passing game. Fuller has consistently been a fantasy stud outside of his various health concerns. With DeVante Parker on the opposite side of him, and Waddle lining up inside, paired with Gesicki, there seems to be plenty of opportunities for Fuller to do what he does best – get into space and take the top off the defense. I will bet on Fuller leading the team in touchdowns and possibly even yardage if his health cooperates for the 16 games he’s slated to play.

Health has always been the issue regarding Fuller, but if that part of his game can stabilize, he is in for a monster first season in Miami. Enough threats are surrounding him almost to mask the threat that he can pose on the outside. Miami has not had a rock-solid fantasy option in quite some time. Parker has been a nice WR2/Flex option in recent seasons, but his inconsistency has limited him as a true fantasy star. Running back Jay Ajayi may have been the last true week-to-week stud out of Miami that fantasy managers were excited to enter in their lineup. I’m hoping and predicting that Will Fuller will be the next Dolphin to garner a great deal of attention as a WR1 for fantasy purposes in 2021.
