It feels like deja vu with the Tom Brady to Miami rumors, but here we are in 2023. With Tua having multiple concussions and having a poor month of December that may have the Dolphins on the outside of the playoffs, there are questions about the Dolphins’ quarterback situation heading into this offseason. The Dolphins need to make a call on Tua’s 5th-year option and what is his long-term future in Miami. Some believe the Dolphins may look in a different direction at the quarterback spot after the season, and Tom Brady may be a viable option. Senior NFL Reporter for Sports Illustrated Albert Breer believes Brady, who is now divorced and has two of his children living in Miami, may want to be close to them proximity-wise and joining the Dolphins to play quarterback may interest him.
“I do actually think his kids are a factor,” Breer said Sunday on NBC Sports Boston’s “Patriots Pregame Live.” “The fact that he’s got one kid in New York and two in Miami, he’s displaced from all three of them, I think that matters. That’s why the Miami situation is so interesting.
“He almost went there a couple years ago. He’s got a relationship with some people in that building: (Dolphins minority owner) Bruce Beal, (majority owner) Stephen Ross. The coach I think would be a great coach for him: Mike McDaniel, the kind of coach I think he’d have a good rapport with. And then you look at the talent there, the talent’s in place there too. So, geographically, Miami makes sense.”
The Dolphins did lose a first-round draft pick in 2023 for tampering with Sean Payton as well as Tom Brady twice, once when he was in New England and once when he was in Tampa Bay. We know Miami has had an interest in Brady in the past. Brady is set to be a free agent this offseason and can sign with any team he wishes. I know a segment of Dolphins fans will not want to move on from Tua and will have a hard time rooting for the long-time Patriots quarterback if he were to wind up in a Dolphins uniform. Still, with the way this season is winding down and with the Dolphins on the verge of a historic collapse, owner Stephen Ross will have some difficult decisions to make this offseason, and quarterback will be at the top of that list.
Is the 3rd time the charm, and will Brady end up in Miami? Time will tell.
