Dolphins cornerback Byron Jones put out a tweet Saturday afternoon and appeared to have announced his retirement from the NFL. Jones said, per the tweet below, “Today I can’t run or jump because of my injuries sustained playing this game.” He goes on to caution current players and players entering the league not to take the pills they (the NFL) give you and do not take the injections either. Jones goes on to say, “It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL, but it came at a regrettable cost I did not foresee.”
Jones talking in the past tense, as if his playing days are behind him, makes one think he has left the game and has retired. Although Jones did not come out and say he has retired from the game.
Jones missed the entire 2022 season for the Dolphins with an injured Achilles. More on this story as it develops.
It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL but it came at a regrettable cost I did not foresee. In my opinion, no amount of professional success or financial gain is worth avoidable chronic pain and disabilities. Godspeed to the draft class of 2023.

(part 2) paperwork before June 1st, then the cap hit is this year. If he files the paperwork on or after June 1st, then it is treated as a post-June 1st cut. The Dolphins would own his contract rights should he ever want to return to the league and play down the road.

UPDATE: Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Byron Jones isn’t retiring. But as stated above, Jones, in his tweets said, “It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL..”. So it appears his tweet was poorly worded if he intends to continue to play in the NFL.
In wake of today's tweets… Byron Jones is not retiring and there's no pending lawsuit, per source. With his 14.4 M salary non guaranteed, the general expectation is he will be cut by Dolphins with post June 1 designation. But nothing has been settled on that front.
