REPORT: Teams Monitoring Tyreek Hill Situation in Miami
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN is reporting today that a handful of teams are monitoring the Tyreek Hill situation in Miami to see if he becomes available and is put on the trade block.
Per Fowler,
“I have talked to a few teams who are at least monitoring his future a little bit,” Fowler said. “Could he be a potential trade target? Now, I know the Dolphins earlier this summer were telling teams, ‘No, we’re not trading Tyreek Hill.’ But they just wonder, is he going to be available? It could be wishful thinking, maybe they want him to be available. But he’s a player when I bring up to teams, ‘Hey, who is sort of a trade target you’re watching?’ they bring up Tyreek Hill. So, we’ll see. He’s a big option for Tua [Tagovailoa], that would be a major move if they did move away from him.”
There has been a lot of chatter around Tyreek Hill this offseason. He was involved in a domestic incident two months ago.
And teammates, such as Tua Tagovailoa, have said Tyreek must repair his relationship with players on the team after he quit in the middle of the final game of last season.
Tyreek has said all of the right things this offseason and is working with new Dolphins WR Coach Robert Prince this season.
But actions speak louder than words, and it still has to be seen if he truly has changed to become a better teammate.
Hill currently has an oblique injury, which caused him to miss the last practice, and he is not dressed for the first preseason game vs Chicago.
Tyreek was one of the few players who had a problem behind the scenes last season in not showing up for practice and meetings on time.
Miami has moved on from other players who were an issue behind the scenes, but because of Tyreek’s contract, they were unable to move on from him this offseason.
Hill is due a massive bonus on August 31st, so if Miami were to trade him before then, the new team would be on the hook for that. Still, the cap hit Miami would take would be substantial.
Per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk
“Because June 1 has passed, a trade in 2025 would trigger no cap acceleration for the Dolphins. Miami, however, would take a $22.04 million cap charge in 2026 for Hill. The Dolphins also would avoid the balance of his $10 million base salary in 2025.”
If the Dolphins get off to a slow start, Miami trading Hill near the trade deadline is probably the most logical time for any trade to take place as a team that is a contender may feel he is the final piece to put them over the top and get them to a Super Bowl.
