Why Chris Grier Parting Ways With The Miami Dolphins Was Inevitable
Chris Grier, who was recently released by the Miami Dolphins, served as the team’s general manager from 2016 until they mutually agreed to part ways after their Thursday Night Football loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Grier was with the organization for twenty-six years, almost exactly how long the Dolphins have gone without winning a playoff game, which sits at twenty-five at the moment.
As usual, I have three reasons why I believe this was inevitable for Stephen Ross to decide on. So, let us take a Deep Dive into why Chris Grier’s parting ways with the Miami Dolphins were inevitable.
The Results Speak For Themselves
Chris Grier, under his watch as general manager, has had no success, with no playoff wins and only three playoff appearances during his tenure, and four overall for the organization. Not once did he put together a truly competitive team, and it is a real shame that it had to end like this. I think Ross gave him too much control over football operations, and it backfired. He also did not build it the right way, and hopefully, whether it be Champ Kelly or whoever gets hired to be general manager for the Dolphins moving forward.
If Grier cannot do it, then one of these individuals, including Champ Kelly, needs to be the Dolphins’ version of Bill Zito, the general manager of the Florida Panthers, who has built that team into a Stanley Cup contender annually. That is my take on the results, speaking for themselves, while Grier was the general manager.
Ross Had No Choice
Stephen Ross, considering he is eighty, wants to win, and he is determined to do whatever it takes. I feel like, at this point, especially after he put out a statement that I am sure everyone has read at this point, which was his comment on his decision parting ways with Chris Grier.
I feel like Ross had no choice because we, as fans, want a championship, and Ross, in his statement, acknowledged that. The Dolphins have gone over fifty years without a Lombardi Trophy, and it obviously will not happen overnight.
Stephen Ross has to hire the right general manager because the right hire, hopefully, will be our version of Howie Roseman of the Eagles, or the comparison I have made before, which was to Bill Zito of the Florida Panthers.
But what do Roseman and Zito have in common, despite them being in two different leagues, and why does this relate to the Dolphins, you ask? They know how to build a team, something that Ross needs to figure out as to who to hire. That is my take on Ross having no choice but to mutually agree to part ways with Chris Grier.
The Fans Got Something, And That Is A Start
The fans finally got what they had been asking for, which was Chris Grier’s departure. Now we have to hope and pray that this new general manager can work with anyone we still have once we figure out who to hire. Obviously, we fans do not have control over who the Dolphins hire; that is, Stephen Ross. All we fans do is give out opinions on everything, but we did get what we have basically been asking for a while, which I will now discuss. Grier has been holding us back for the past nine years, and finally, we got the monkey off our backs. Now the Dolphins need to hire the right man for the job, but we will not know who that general manager is until that happens.
You have to realize, fellow fans, we have been through torture for decades and deserve better, but like everything with this team over the years, for us, we have to pray we get the right man for the job, and they know what they are doing, unlike Grier. That has been my take on the Dolphins fans getting what they deserved, which was Chris Grier’s departure, which is a start.
Chris Grier’s Tenure In Summary
How does this sum up Chris Grier’s tenure with the Dolphins, you ask? Let me put it this way, not good is what I think, too many misses on picks, and bad at putting together a roster. Now, I did mention how the results speak for themselves, which show they had zero success under Grier’s watch. Then Ross had no choice but to let go of Grier, especially considering his age and his desire to win. Finally, Dolphins fans got what they have been waiting for years, which was a start.
Now they have to hire whoever they feel is the right man, as long as they know what they are doing, unlike Grier. Chris Grier’s departure should be celebrated amongst Dolphins fans and it has been but can it lead them to triumph in the future? There is only one way to do that, and that is patience.
