Looking at the Dolphins’ Dominance Over the Jets in Recent Years

The Miami Dolphins’ win over the New York Jets on Sunday marked the continuation of a status quo that’s held up since the start of the decade. Miami has long had New York’s number, and it once again dominated the Jets by a final score of 34-10 on Dec. 7.

The Dolphins swept their season series against the Jets with their win a few days ago, as they also came out on top in a Sept. 29 bout earlier in the campaign. That game was more hotly contested compared to Sunday’s contest, as the Dolphins won by just six points, but the final outcome was still never really in serious doubt, as they never trailed.

In the 2020s, the two AFC East rivals have met 12 times in total, and out of those dozen matchups, Miami has won all but two of them. The last time the Jets bested the Dolphins was in January of 2025, and that loss should be taken with a grain of salt, as Miami was without the leader of its offense for that game. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sidelined with a hip injury, and Tyler Huntley didn’t hold down the fort in his absence. He threw more interceptions than touchdowns in his last game as a Dolphin.

Before that, one has to go all the way back in time to October of 2022 to find the last instance where the Jets outplayed the Dolphins. Miami didn’t have Tagovailoa for that game either, and the team’s offense scored just 17 points in a game it lost by 23.

Here’s hoping that the Dolphins can continue to dominate the Jets in the years to come, and considering how much of a dumpster New York has been over the last 10-plus years (it hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2010 season), fans should be optimistic that they will.
