Completely Overwhelmed
In his very first NFL start, Quinn Ewers decided to do his very best Tua impression, complete with multiple interceptions and just looking lost in general. I’m not sure what we really expected, though, because it was literally his first week getting to practice with the first string, so he was basically getting thrown to the wolves. In the first half, he looked halfway decent, but in the second half, it was just a complete train wreck for not only him but the whole team in general.
This is just not a good team, plain and simple, no matter who’s under center. Tua is just one of many glaring holes on this team. The writing has been on the wall from the very first game of the season against the Colts. After that game, I remember just saying to myself, “Wow, this is going to be a very long season,” and truer words have never been spoken.
It’ll be interesting to see how Ewers bounces back from this awful first start. He needs some extensive first-team practice reps under his belt, and he needs to just get comfortable being an NFL quarterback. That just doesn’t happen overnight, so we can’t be too hard on him just yet. Let’s just keep throwing him out there these last two games of the season and see how he responds.
One thing I will say, though, is that we absolutely can be hard on this defense cause they are a nightmare. They had some of the Fins’ fan base fooled during that pointless four-game winning streak against mostly inferior opponents, where they actually looked like a halfway competent defensive unit. However, they have really shown their true colors these last two weeks, and just this season overall, they have been a big old hot mess.
A complete overhaul is needed, which has started with the benching of Tua, and hopefully, God willing, he has played his last snap for this franchise. There also needs to be a thorough look at this roster because the holes are insanely glaring from top to bottom. The only player in my eyes that is safe is De’Von Achane. After him, everyone else’s spot is up for grabs.
That overhaul includes the coach, of course. Mike McDaniel has overstayed his welcome as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, and it’s definitely time for him to be shown the door. If Stephen Ross has even one percent of a backbone left, he fires that man either now or as soon as the season is over, but ultimately, Mikey needs to go.
Whoever the new GM is, I know they are going to want to hire their own guy and not get left with the ramifications of a failed regime. It’s just not working anymore. That 2023 season seems like a million years ago, and we can’t keep giving Mikey and Tua a free pass anymore because they gave us one good year. Thankfully, Grier is gone, and obviously, Mikey needs to follow, and Tua’s Dolphin days are effectively over. Let’s get past this dark period with a completely clean break. It’s only up from here…right??
