ESPN REPORT: Miami is “DEFINITELY IN” on Malik Willis

Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN put out a column Sunday morning with the latest BUZZ they are hearing ahead of NFL Free Agency, which starts in one week.

And there is a lot of buzz surrounding top free agent quarterback Malik Willis, and per Fowler, yes, the Dolphins will be interested.

Per Fowler: “Expect at least two and possibly several teams to be involved on Willis. “Miami is definitely in,” a source said. Arizona is combing the market, too, but it doesn’t seem likely that Willis will end up in Cleveland.

Multiple offensive coaches said Willis has the chance to be the league’s best rushing quarterback and that he has the power in his legs and arm to drive the ball to all parts of the field. “The issue will be that you simply can’t run your whole offense with him,” one prominent offensive coach said. “He’s not ready to handle that. So, whether he can sustain a full season will be a question. But he’s got a lot of ability and terrific character.”

Dolphins fans are split on Willis, heading into free agency. I would say it’s unofficially about 60/40, with the majority of fans not wanting Miami to sign him.

The 40% who want Miami to add Willis are true believers and think the kid is ready to take that next step as a starter, and the flashes he has shown in Green Bay are just the tip of the iceberg.

The other side, the 60%, does not want Miami to do anything at quarterback this year. They want a tank, and they want Miami to get the top quarterback or one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 NFL draft. And they also do not want Miami to use up any cap space on a player like Willis, who will cost a pretty penny.

I can see both sides of the coin here, but I feel Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley aren’t about to tank, and they know Willis best, and if they are believers, I feel they will try to move heaven and earth to acquire him.

Graziano does caution that the dead cap hit from Tua may prevent Miami from ultimately adding Willis.

I will also say, any contract Miami signs Willis to won’t be one they will be tied to long term, most likely only 2 years of guaranteed money with maybe a void year at the end.

Graziano says: “Miami could make a contract offer to free agent QB Malik Willis, but that Tagovailoa dead money could also necessitate the team spending little on the position for 2026. Holdover Quinn Ewers is a possibility mainly because he’s already on the roster, but his chances of winning the job depend in large part on who else the Dolphins bring in.”

It is easy to see why Sullivan and Hafley may want Willis in Miami.

In Green Bay, Willis played 11 games, the same number he played with the Titans.

He started the same number of games, 3, with the Packers as he did with the Titans.

But the results were very different

The team was 2-1 in games he started in Green Bay, and he threw three touchdowns and had zero interceptions.

Not to mention, in 2024 and 2025, he ran for over 100 rushing yards in each season.

And a stat that is eye-opening, with the Packers in 2024, the completion % for Willis was 74.1%, and in 2025 it was a whopping 85.7%.

Many people see Willis as a fast-rising stock with significant untapped potential.

We will see what the Dolphins do in the end, but to think they have shut the door on adding Willis or won’t be serious players, I think, is just false.
