REPORT: There’s Mutual Interest between Dolphins & Former Pro Bowl TE

REPORT: There’s Mutual Interest between Dolphins & Former Pro Bowl TE

On a list that includes former Miami Dolphins star Jonnu Smith, the consensus belief is that David Njoku is the best available tight end left in free agency, and for good reason.

He’s been the model of consistency this decade, as he’s racked up at least 475 receiving yards in all but one of the last five NFL campaigns. Not only that, but he put together one of the best single seasons of any tight end in Cleveland Browns history in 2023, posting 882 receiving yards and half a dozen touchdowns receiving.

Any team would be fortunate to land him, and according to one rumor, that team might just go on to be the Dolphins. The X account NFL Rumors alleged in a post on Monday night that there exists mutual interest between Miami and the former Pro Bowl tight end.

As of right now, it appears the Dolphins’ starting tight end job is Greg Dulcich’s to lose, but if Miami were to acquire Njoku on the open market, that would all change. All of a sudden, Dulcich, who was a breakout player for Miami in the backend of the 2025 campaign, would have some real, formidable competition for the job.

Njoku, the No. 29 overall pick by the Browns back in the opening round of the 2017 NFL Draft, has played nine seasons in the league, all in Cleveland. He appeared in 118 regular-season games in total for the Browns and accumulated 4,062 receiving yards, 34 receiving touchdowns, and 186 first downs receiving. His longest reception with the team was also for a whopping 71 yards back near the start of the decade in 2021.

It would be somewhat fitting if Njoku were to join the Dolphins, considering where he played his college ball. For two seasons — from the 2015 campaign through the 2016 season — he starred playing for the University of Miami Hurricanes.
