Former Dolphins backup QB to Sign with Baltimore Ravens
A seventh-round pick of the Miami Dolphins (back in the 2022 NFL Draft) has found a new home in the league. According to Ian Rapoport, the expectation is that the Baltimore Ravens — whose quarterback room is headed by none other than Lamar Jackson — will sign signal-caller Skylar Thompson.

Thompson found himself glued to the bench behind quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for much of his time with the Dolphins, and his only chances to lead the offense came when Tua was hurt with concussions.
For example, Thompson started in Weeks 5 and 6 of the 2022 campaign while Tagovailoa was nursing a head injury. Fast forward to the 2024 season, and Thompson got his only start of that year in Week 3 versus Seattle — the week after Tagovailoa suffered another concussion. With the young man at the helm, Miami’s offense mustered just three points all game in what marked an embarrassing loss as well as debatably a low point for the team in 2024.
For his NFL career, the former Kansas State standout holds a 1-2 record as a starter, 58.7 completion percentage, and he’s thrown for 721 yards and one touchdown compared to three interceptions.
Thompson will hope to turn heads in training camp and stake his claim as a solid emergency blanket for Baltimore should Jackson — a superstar dual threat — and/or Tyler Huntley get hurt. He will have no shortage of competition at the position, however, as the Ravens currently employ five quarterbacks, including Diego Pavia (who finished second in voting for the Heisman Trophy in 2025) and Joe Fagnano.
It will be worth keeping tabs on whether Thompson can make the most of his opportunity to play for the Ravens’ third-string quarterback spot. Even if he almost certainly won’t play meaningful snaps for Baltimore, playing behind a master of his craft such as Jackson could help him turn his career around.
