Mason Reiger has Good Chance to Make 53-man Roster as UDFA
Beyond Chop Robinson, Miami’s edge rusher room is full of veterans on short-term deals.
There is Josh Uche, a 27-year-old veteran who was a former second-round pick, who has not lived up to his full potential with both the Eagles and the Patriots.
Also, David Ojabo is another player competing for a spot on the 53-man roster after spending four years with the Ravens.
Miami also added Robert Beal Jr. in the offseason as he enters his fifth year in the league.
While all these players have the potential to make an impact, none have shown that they can be consistent enough in the league to be considered locks.
And with that, there is plenty of opportunity for Miami’s rookies to find playing time this year.
One of those rookies is Mason Reiger, one of the 10 undrafted rookies that the Dolphins signed immediately after the draft.
At 6’5, 248 pounds, Reiger had a standout senior season at the University of Wisconsin.
He played in all 12 regular-season games, making 11 starts and recording 33 tackles, five sacks, and six tackles for loss.
Reiger also upped his level of play when the competition got better, as he posted sacks against Oregon, Indiana, and Illinois.
He turned that strong play into a strong pre-draft process as he earned MVP honors at the Shrine Bowl in January.
At the combine, Reiger impressed scouts with a high athletic score as he recorded a 1.61 10-yard split and a 40-inch vertical jump.
So why did he go undrafted last month?
That answer is easy.
He spent six years in college and missed the entire 2024 season with an injury.
Otherwise, someone with Reiger’s pedigree would have gone much earlier in the draft.
And with Miami’s depleted edge room, the Dolphins could have found a strong solution at the edge position for very cheap by adding Reiger.
If he can impress in training camp, expect him to be one of many rookies who open the season on the 53-man roster.
