Dolphins Cut QB and Safety; Claim a Cornerback and Sign a Safety
The Miami Dolphins made 4 roster moves today: a signing, a waiver claim, and 2 players waived. The team announced the signing of safety Tanner Wall, claimed cornerback Ahmari Harvey off waivers from Pittsburgh, and subsequently released quarterback Mark Gronowski and safety Omar Brown.
The announcement of both players being released is no surprise. Mark Gronowski has reportedly been underwhelming, throwing multiple interceptions each day of camp. The Dolphins currently roster 3 quarterbacks, and Gronowski lost the battle of “QB3”.
Omar Brown was never meant to be a big piece of the team, and his limited usage was already a red flag in camp. After the addition of Major Burns and the impressive play of Zayne Anderson, Brown no longer had a spot on the roster. He was also injured, which led to him being waived with the injury designation.
Tanner Wall is a new signing. The 26-year-old safety was a starter for the BYU Cougars since 2024. Prior to the 2023 campaign, when he played in 5 games, he was a receiver. Fairly new to the position, Wall was very impressive in 2025, earning himself the All-Big 12 first-team honors.
Regardless of his play in 2025, his lack of experience combined with age had him deemed undraftable by the NFL. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders on a standard undrafted free agent deal in April, but was later waived on August 5th. Miami, still looking for safety prospects due to their thin room, decided he was worth a shot. He lacks high-end athleticism but has good instincts and, at worst, can contribute on special teams.

Miami claimed Ahmari Harvey off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Prior to the Steelers, Harvey was signed by the Denver Broncos after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. He played the majority of his college football at the University of Georgia Tech, splitting his time between safety and cornerback before becoming a true starter at cornerback in 2024. After his final season, he participated in the Shrine Bowl practices and All-Star game. He was deemed a standout by many due to his physical play style in man coverage and at the line of scrimmage.
His history of playing safety also contributed to his ability to track deep balls in zone coverage. Harvey is an experienced player who many thought could be drafted. He has good size for a defensive back, being listed at 6 feet tall and just under 200 pounds.
Both signings from today are nothing to write home about, but they will be given the opportunity to put together some preseason tape to impress the coaches and potentially make the 53-man roster or practice squad.
The release of Mark Gronowski may be the biggest move, as many hoped he could sit on the bench as an exciting backup quarterback. His play in camp was nothing short of poor, leading to his time with the team being over after just a few months.
