Moving on From Tua Tagovailoa Feels Like a Weight Off the Dolphins’ Shoulders
In case you haven’t heard, Tua Tagovailoa was named the starting quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. Unfortunately, just a few days later, he was ruled out of the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tua injured his oblique while throwing a pass this week, collapsing to the ground despite not being touched.
I’ll admit, when I heard that Tua went down in practice, I started to have flashbacks to his time with the Dolphins. It was always something with him; it wasn’t just the highly publicized concussions, but also a thumb, rib, finger, and finally a hip injury that I honestly believed took what remained of his arm strength. He has not looked the same since December 2024, which led to an entire 2025 campaign of uneven play.
I get that the $99.2 million cap hit sets Miami back in the short term. This season, the team will not have the depth it needs to consistently compete. Many are saying the Dolphins will be the worst team in the league, which I don’t entirely agree with, but they definitely aren’t going to make the playoffs. However, when I saw the injury report and then learned he would miss Week 1, I felt a sense of relief because I didn’t have to care. Let me tell you, that relief was worth every penny.
I say this as someone who has never been a Tua hater; I was on that bandwagon until the wheels fully fell off. Even as a big fan, I have to admit that by the end of his run, I was getting exhausted by the discourse surrounding him. For whatever reason, Tua inspires passion; that passion goes both ways: his fans love him, and his detractors hate him.
What the Post-Tua Era Means for Miami
It was too much and made the entire experience unenjoyable.
As I said before, it was always something: the injuries, his play, him saying something dumb in the media. Every week a new frustrating story.
So while I hope that he’s able to recover, and honestly I hope he has a decent year with the Falcons, if that doesn’t happen, I’m just glad that it is no longer my problem. I’m sure I’ll find plenty to get myself worked up about from players currently on the Dolphins roster.
