Fireworks in 2018 For the Dolphins

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th of July earlier this week. In the spirit of the holiday, it got me thinking about what players on the roster have the ability to create the most fireworks for the team. The definition of a firework is as follows: a device containing gunpowder and other combustible chemicals that causes a spectacular explosion when ignited used typically for display or in celebrations. There are certainly a few Miami Dolphins players that have this ability.

First, let’s look at Quarterback Ryan Tannehill (Because all questions about the roster start with RT17, right?) Ryan has shown an ability to be very successful if given the right amount of time and weapons around him. You also need to take into account the significant additions to the offensive life (Daniel Kilgore and Josh Sitton), the additions of Albert Wilson and Danny Amendola, and the drafting of TE Mike Gesicki, this could set up Tannehill to have his best year yet.

Next, we look at Wide Receiver Kenny Stills. Last year, Stills had a good year, but not a great year. However, I will chalk that up to having Jay Cavallari (sorry, I meant Cutler) throwing him the ball. Kenny has a career average yards per catch of 16.1, and that number was down by nearly 2 yards during the 2017-2018 campaign. If Tannehill can get the time in the pocket, he and Stills should be able to connect deep down the field on numerous occasions and put up some fireworks for the offense in 2018.

My wildcard pick on the offensive side of the ball will be Tight End Mike Gesicki. This kid is 6 Foot 6 Inches and has a 41.5-inch vertical jump (GASP!). Let me ask you guys a question… when was the last time the Dolphins had a legit, scary option in the red zone? I know he can’t block worth a lick, but who cares? We need to line this guy on the outside, and throw the ball up, and let him go get it. I cannot wait to see what kind of fireworks he can Ryan can make happen.

Let’s move to the defensive side of the ball. My first guy to watch is Defensive End, Robert Quinn. The injury history is certainly a cause for concern, but when healthy, he is going to a joy to watch. When asked to describe Quinn as a player, teammate Vincent Taylor used the word, “Special .“ When you add him to the same defensive line as Cameron Wake, Quinn can certainly do some special things off of the edge.

This next guy has me salivating over what he will do in the Miami defense, and that is Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Minkah fits the idea of a firework to a tee. The team will line this guy up, all over the field, and he will be able to make big plays in various forms. He comes into a defense that already has major playmakers (Reshad Jones, Xavien Howard, Cameron Wake), and he will fit right in.

Lastly, I look to our number one cornerback Xavien Howard. He has gotten better, every year he has been in the league. If we allow him the freedom to play press coverage, on a consistent basis, he should turn into one of the best corners in the entire league. His ability to get the ball back to the offense makes him one of the most explosive guys on the roster.
