Louis Ragone joins Michael Fink to discuss yesterday’s tough loss in Philadelphia. We talk about bad officiating, sloppy play, Tua, McDaniel, and the need to not make too much of this loss.
Love the show, but there was a lot of Monday morning QBing going on here.
I hate to use the word blame, because it’s not really blame, but it starts with the head coach [or other coaches] (?!?–sounds a lot like like blame).
I never use officating as an excuse, but some of these calls were bad (?!?)
3 backup Miami O-linemen up should be better prepared to beat 3 Philly starters–because they are paid to play? (?!? You really think well coached backups should be expected to outclass well coached starters?!?).
Hill got targeted too much, 8 yards average per catch, you gotta take what the D gives you, “HIll’s phenomenal.” “He’s targeted too much at times–and rightly so–but only to an extent.” (?!?)
Fact is, Miami tried different game plan from the Buffalo game–but it didn’t work either because Philly is better than Buffalo and Rugby hasn’t been outlawed yet. Maimi made some adjustments, and had some success until luck ran out (or Philly’s home cooking took over). But sloppy as the first half was, Miami’s D tied it up in the third. Hill’s being the favored receiver after Waddle went out indeed opened up Wilson for his big catches (I agree, they need to split the load a little more). But they were down 8 starters in a hostile environment for a significant part of the game–2 CBs, 3 starting O-linemen, Waddle for half a game, and the final straw that allowed Philly to pull away–Long and Holland after that unfortunate collision.
I expect we’ll take it out on Belicheat and Mac Jones next week, and KC after that (breaking the Swiftie spell). But we need McD to forge a plan that works against stingy Ds sooner than later. And I hope the team gets healthy in time to cement a good playoff seed. The pass rush was fine yesterday–but it won’t matter if the pairing of Jalen and X in a few weeks doesn’t solve our CB problems. That’s a lot of pressure to put on 2 dudes who pull muscles when they run fast and tore knee cartilage in practice.

Time for some good karma.
