College football insider Matt Zenitz of on3.com reports that the Dolphins are set to hire Kenny Baker from Western Kentucky as their next assistant defensive line coach. Baker played college football at Gardner-Webb. He was a four-year letterman from 2005-08 and a three-year starter on the defensive line. He was a team captain and earned the team’s Defensive Player of the Year award in 2007. Baker was a big reason why WKU was second-ranked in Conference USA in sacks, scoring defense, and opposing yards per carry last year.
Previous Dolphins’ assistant defensive line coach Derrick LeBlanc was recently hired by the Arizona Cardinals as their defensive line coach. Baker was hired by WKU in 2020 as a defensive ends coach.
Baker, a former standout defensive lineman at Gardner-Webb, worked at Western Kentucky the last three years after previously serving as d-line coach at places such as Chattanooga and Mercer. At WKU, he coached players like Atlanta Falcons 2022 third-round pick DeAngelo Malone.
