The Miami Dolphins edged past the Dallas Cowboys in an entertaining 22-20 victory at the Hard Rock Stadium to leave Mike McDaniel’s side at a healthy 11-4 as they approach the postseason.

The Dolphins eased to victory thanks to a 29-yard field goal scored by Jason Sanders, his fifth of the game, a victory that put Miami into the playoffs. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa once again performed wonders, throwing for 293 yards and a touchdown.

McDaniel was happy to watch his side get over the line and lauded Miami’s opponents,

“That’s a win over a really good team that’s tough to beat … It’s satisfying to have an earned victory that took everybody,” the Dolphins head coach commented.

Miami all but takes the AFC East with the win, putting them two games up on the Buffalo Bills, which means the Dolphins have now won five of their last six as they look to their final regular season match-ups.

In Game Week 17 they take on the Baltimore Ravens before closing out their season by hosting the Bills in what could prove a pivotal game for the divisional title. McDaniel went into the game looking to overcome the ridiculous narrative concerning Miami’s supposedly easy schedule, telling reporters before the game with the Dallas Cowboys,

“The thoughts are firmly with getting better from this previous game, and as I talked to the team today, I instructed the players that anything other than to concern yourself with the next opponent, which for us is the Dallas Cowboys, any other narrative that has to do with good teams or playoff seeds or the next three games, all that stuff … I gave them the clearance to tell all members of the media to — with all due respect — F off, with all due respect,” comments that drew amusement from the press.

“Because all we’re focused on is the Dallas Cowboys, and they definitely deserve our attention. So as we clean up our game from the previous, we’ll be thinking about that, and the narratives will be what they be, and we’re not really concerned. We know that’s going to exist, but it’s really inconsequential for what we’re trying to do.” McDaniel concluded.

40-year-old McDaniel was appointed head coach of the Dolphins in February 2022 and helped the team to a decent 9-8 record and a first playoff placing since 2016. He has then taken the team up another gear.

This was the team’s 11th victory of the season, a bar they haven’t hit since 2008, and no doubt ultra-ambitious Daniels is aiming to take Miami deep into the postseason, something they haven’t achieved for quite a while.

The last time the team made it to at least the Divisional Playoffs was 2000, and it was way back in 1992 that they last got to the AFC Championship game and fans of the Dolphins may feel these are milestones they could reach this time around.
