THE ODD COUPLE – Chris Broussard & Rob Parker debate if the Miami Dolphins should offer Tua Tagovailoa a contract or let Tua continue to earn that new contract and potentially consider some quarterback insurance in the NFL Draft.
THREE DRAFT STRATEGIES FOR MIAMI IN ROUNDS 1 & 2
That is very likely a bad idea, very few Pac 12 quarterbacks pan out on the NFL. Tua is proven and elite. Focus on game plan and lines
Elite? Name Tua’s come-from-behind win. How does he do in, you know, “football weather”? I like the man a lot, but he’s a lightyear from “elite” at this stage.
Hilarious! Let’s recap: Who led the NFL in passer rating in 2022. Led the NFL in passing yards in 2023. Led the NFL’s Number One offense in 2023. Not by dinks and screens – has one of the longest YPT and is highly accurate throwing downfield. Voted to the Pro Bowl. Six fourth quarter comebacks, eight game-winning drives.
But no, don’t let the facts get in your way. Carry on.
How about being down 21 points in the 4th quarter against the Ravens and coming back to win, throwing for 469 yards and 6 touchdowns?
It’s not an injury out for a few games for Tua that is the problem. It’s the one hit, concussion, out for good that is the problem!
Tua is not worth $50M a year, no one except Mahomes is. Tua is injury prone but more importantly are his limitations. Tua can not move and has virtually no mobility. He has no arm strength on anything over a short to middle range throw. He was completely shut down when playing against quality opponents, having beat only one team last year that had a winning record. And he’s never won a game in below 45 degrees. Tua has reached his ceiling and paying him $50M a year will set the Dolphins back for years.
Replace Tua with an unproven QB at the NFL level with a guy that has had 2 knee surgeries? Yea, great idea, not.
